Merrist Wood Open Air Theatre

Directed by Tim Brown

The Crucible – Arthur Miller’s masterpiece

Fake News, Mass hysteria and Social Media witch hunts? They aren’t new.
It started in Salem …….

Arguably Arthur Miller’s greatest play, The Crucible is set in 1692 amid the Salem witch hunts, in a community divided by jealousy and superstition. This is no dusty history lesson, but a high-stakes thriller where small lies snowball. As witchcraft hysteria takes hold, the vicious circle of accusations turns neighbours into enemies, and love too easily dissolves into hate. Nature provides the soundtrack. The wind in the trees is the only witness. In the open air, there is nowhere for the truth to hide.

We are delighted to be supporting MANE CHANCE SANCTUARY again as our chosen charity. Mane Chance is a registered charity and sanctuary for rescued, abused and abandoned horses, offering help to young people who need a little extra support, involving them in working alongside our rescued horses in a therapeutic environment. Mane Chance volunteers will be serving the refreshments in our tea tent – all proceeds will go to support the charity. Find out more about the charity. Click here

NODA REPORT PAULINE SURREY : ‘…so gripping, so wonderfully well performed, it was a very rewarding evening indeed. The fact that we watched it on a glorious summer’s evening in the wonderful grounds of Merrist Wood, with its fabulous views, swifts soaring overhead as the sun set, and the temperature finally cooling from over 30 degrees, was of course an added bonus.’ Read the full report here.
