ONE NIGHT IN NOVEMBER.

In the scale of Things Difficult To Stage, I would have thought a living-room getting smashed up by the Luftwaffe would be right up there, but Guildburys did it to superb effect. That was the emotional, dramatic and visual climax to a very thought-provoking show at the Electric in Guildford last night….. as always with Guildburys, every aspect of the production was top-notch; It was a fine evening’s theatre. If you get a chance to see it, you won’t be sorry.

ALL MY SONS 5 STARS. Personal, family and patriotic honour, truth and loyalty – timeless themes in a brilliant production by the talented Guildburys. Laura Sheppard as Kate Kellar is a strong figure, pitiful in her obsessive belief that her other son still lives. Her grief at the end of the play is mythical: her world is torn apart, her hands clawing her face, a mask of despair. My own eyes were overflowing with the enormity of her emotion. This is a wonderful play, timeless in its discussion of personal, family and patriotic values and loyalty. And this is a wonderful production, directed superbly by Robert Sheppard.

ALL MY SONS – ‘Really riveting performance of All my Sons at the Electric theatre last night. Top level on stage and direction. A really sincere and genuine more than very well done from someone who is not easily pleased.

ONE NIGHT IN NOVEMBER ‘We wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed One Night in November last night.  Very moving and very surprising.  The set was outstanding:  I didn’t notice the changeover and was blown away with the broken staircase.  The costumes were so good and props and set dressing amazing.  And what a cast:  outstanding……’

ON THE RAZZLE ‘A great delight from one end to the other and everything in between. Wicked word play…farce at its very best. Great direction and a great cast giving it all they got with great gusto….and enjoying it immensely themselves. A treat for the mind and you will leave the theatre thoroughly thoroughly pleased with yourself for going to this great play’

ON THE RAZZLE

“It was also obvious to me that they were enjoying performing the play as much as the audience enjoyed watching them. The Guildbury Theatre company should be very proud of themselves as they have produced a slick rendering of On the Razzle for Guildford to enjoy……..A triumph for the company and for The Electric Theatre and I highly recommend a visit.’

Diane Nichols made the part of Miss Shepherd entirely her own.….. how the Guildburys managed to find a) two such look-alike actors, b) two who were able to be TOTALLY Alan Bennett, accent, voice intonation, gestures, facial expressions, c) two who had the timing just right, well that was also amazing. Excellent performances both.
